UC Berkeley Wurster Student Lounge
Design and Fabrication 1994
Graduate project which proposed a new student lounge area and installation panels for the second floor lobby of the College of Environmental Design. The project was designed and constructed in the shop at Wurster Hall and was located until the building required seismic retrofitting in the early 2000’s. Some panels were relocated to Assembly’s storefront. The project features nine fiberglass translucent panels which pivoted around a central column. The cabinet contained a pivoting wall which allowed for seating and included a rotating chess table. Above was a loft for sleeping during all night studio work sessions. All details were designed and fabricated by Margaret Ikeda, Cecilia Hernandez and Evan Jones and formed the basis for the launching of ASSEMBLY out of the Architecture School.
